For close to a decade now H.P.S? (Gavan Griffin) has been at the forefront of live electronic music in Sydney. With a sound that centers around the harder end of techno, Gavan has also proven himself remarkably adept at producing across a diverse range of genres including drum and bass, hip-hop, breaks and electro, and his already vast repertoire is ever-widening.
From a long line of musicians (both parents and grandparents were actively involved with music), Gavan's inherent talent and consummate skill are plainly evident to anyone that has ever experienced the intensity of one of his blistering live sets, or listened to any of his numerous recorded releases. Truly a master of his craft he has time and again proven himself more than capable of holding his own against a plethora of international and local touring acts including D.A.V.E. the Drummer, Chris and Julian Liberator, Guy "The Geezer" McAffer, DJ Bold, Ben Sims, DJ Misjah, Ignition Technician, Aphex Twin, Luke Vibert, Mike Humphries, Carl Cox and Chris Liebing. Gavan has been featured at SWARM, Big Day Out, Transmission, M.T.C (Melbourne), Mainline presents, Hardware (Sydney), Freaky Loops, Earthdance, Tek nik al, Lucid and many smaller club nights and dance parties throughout the past nine years.
H.P.S? is currently signed to Enigma Records and has had tracks included on the "Enigma Vol. 1", "Vol. 2" and "Vol. 3" compilations as well as a collaborative compilation effort with local techno stalwart and SWARM promoter Vic, "Creatures of Habit". He has also released a number of live recordings, "Year of the Filter", "Geosynthetic" and "Fuckin Techno" (that also contains a number of studio tracks).
Truly one of Sydney's most prolific, committed and respected electronic musicians, Gavan continues to evolve and diversify, recently proving that his skills as a DJ are up there with his production abilities and in the process adding to an already incredibly impressive musical curriculum vitae.
Quite simply there are few people more important and integral to the Sydney techno scene and the greater electronic music community than H.P.S?
